CELEBRATE BIRDSONG AND EXPLORE THE NATURAL WORLD

Festival Dates: Third weekend in May, annually. Next Bird Fest: May 12-15, 2011.

UPDATE: It's back in the nest! Our 8th annual Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest has concluded and the flags and signs are back in the nest (aka closet). Our thanks to everyone who contributed to a great week of birding and activities! Whether you were a visitor, a media rep, a volunteer, a guide, a presenter, or a sponsor---please know that it takes ALL of us to pull this off. The weather cooperated splendidly! The rain began Sunday night, after the last event was finished, and continued for more than 2 weeks!

News! We have a new partner. Washington Native Plant Society has become a Bird Fest partner for 2011. Watch for more of the trips you love with a bird guide AND a botanist/naturalist. We want to make the full circle connection between plants (habitat), their pollinators, and the birds that live in the habitat.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED: The two raffle prizes were awarded:

The Vortex Fury 8 X 32 binoculars were won by Lois Thetford of Seattle.

The gift certificate for two for 18 holes of golf at Kahler Glen Golf and Ski Resort was won by Paul Courter of Seattle.

The 2010 Bird List is posted below. Some of our best sightings: black-backed woodpecker, tundra swan (both on Fish Lake), 3 moose (Fish Lake)--ok, they are not birds, but they are pretty exciting for us, black-throated gray warbler in Plain, harlequin ducks (Confluence).

Come bird with us the third weekend in May, and discover the natural beauty of North Central Washington state. The Leavenworth area features spectacular habitats ranging from snow-capped mountains to sunny ponderosa pine forests and lush riparian zones, to shrub-steppe. All our field trips are led by experts and professionals in their field. Learn about the wide variety of migratory birds that come here for a brief, but important part of their year: to breed and reproduce. Hear the songs sung only during the breeding season while you stroll, bike, boat, or van during the height of wildflower season. While birding is the heart of the weekend, activities also include wildflower walks, arts events, and family activities to ensure fun and learning for everyone, and for birders of all skill levels, with enough built-in "down time" to explore the friendly Bavarian village that we call home.

The detailed events program for Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest 2010 is available on the EVENTS page.

Mission Statement:
The Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest provides educational and recreational activities focusing on birds, wildlife, and their environments. This annual event promotes the awareness of environmental and conservation issues surrounding the area's birds, while providing an economic and educational benefit to the community. This event connects with International Migratory Bird Day and includes a multi-cultural aspect linked to Latin American countries. The heart of the festival is to have fun through bird education with-and-for families, locals and visitors, yet the event also has a scientific quality of gathering important birding data.
