EVENTS
The 2010 Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest program is still available as a downloadable PDF below. After April 1, programs are available at your nearest USFS Ranger Station, if you are in the NW. We also send them to REI and most nature centers in the NW. If you would like a program mailed to you, please provide us with your mailing address via E-mail.
Most events require pre-registration and others are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
We keep group sizes low in order to provide an excellent visitor experience, therefore many events fill quickly! We urge you to register early for the events requiring pre-registration. Sign up for the "first come" trips at Bird Fest Central, in the Gazebo in downtown Leavenworth, 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. If your desired trip is full, we will have information for self-guided tours at the registration booth, and we will have several "walk up" guided birding trips close to town. Some pre-registered trips may have space available on the day of the trip, even though shown as "full." Please inquire at Bird Fest Central at the gazebo in downtown Leavenworth to see if you can take the place of a "no show."
FLASH! The last 2 years we have added a FREE SURPRISE FIELD TRIP which is raffled off as a door prize at Red-Tail Canyon Farm on Saturday evening. Must be present to win.
What to leave at home: Pets are not allowed on Bird Fest events. (Sorry!)
What to bring: Expect sunny weather but be prepared for wind or spring showers. In 2009, Bird Fest Thursday was cold and snowing--by Sunday it was t-shirt weather. Be prepared! Here is a checklist:
--Binoculars...bird trips are no fun without them. Guides *may* have an extra pair to lend, but don't count on that. The "Birding for Beginners" events will have binoculars to lend for the duration of those events.
--Hiking boots if attending a hike; sturdy shoes otherwise (no flipflops)
--Wear layers of clothing.
--Day pack with water, snack/lunch, raingear, extra jacket, hat, sunglasses, socks, sunscreen.
--Bird field guide, to enhance your enjoyment.
--Spotting scope if you have one. Guides will generally each have one.
--Flashlight for night field trips.
--Your active senses of curiousity, wonder, and humor!
